About Real Food Action
We’re parents struggling to create a healthy lifestyle for our family while juggling jobs and all of the other balls life throws at us. And it’s really, really hard.
We decided to take a big leap of faith. In 2005, we left our Silicon Valley jobs and embarked on a dream. We started an organic nursery, made a commitment to simplify our lives, get back to the basics, and show the path for others to follow. Little did we know that Real Food Action would be that path.
It all started when we’d host a bunch of field trips for young kids, and realized that teaching them how to grow their own vegetables was a big passion of ours. Watching them pick fresh produce and gobble it up is still the greatest thing to watch! No wait. It is the look of shock in the faces of parents that is even better.
Kids eating veggies right out of the garden? Yes, it is true and it shouldn’t be a surprise. Research shows that when kids grow their own food, they will eat it.
As you know, we have an obesity epidemic on our hands and it’s our responsibility to feed our kids healthy food. It’s not easy, we know. That’s why this site exists. We decided to pull together the very best resources that will help you improve the eating habits, and health, of your family.
The most important first step is to Get Educated. Knowledge is power, right?
When we discovered what was going on with our food, we became alarmed, disturbed, angry, sad — and ready to make changes. “Now, what?” was the question, and we found ourselves searching for answers in a million different places. It wasn’t easy, so we knew we needed to share our discoveries with others to help them take action, too.
Getting smart about your food is one thing, but then you need the tools to move forward. You can choose to Get Involved by supporting Real Food movements. And you can Get Going by learning how to Find, Grow and Make Real Food at home and in the schools your kids attend.

There’s one more thing. We make this really cool product line called My First Organics. Read all about it, and if you’re sold, be sure to take advantage of the Real Food Action Campaign. In short, it puts the excitement of growing your own veggies in the hands of young kids at home and school. Buy whatever you want, and we’ll contribute 20% of your purchase into a fund that gives our Classroom Bundle to teachers who want them.
Getting parents and teachers to grow veggies with their young kids? Helping establish healthier eating habits in homes and schools across the nation? A perfect fulfillment of our mission.
Thanks for visiting! We wish you and yours a healthier relationship with food! It’s not easy in today’s world, but we hope these tools help. In fact, we’ll begin sharing our own RFA journey using the resources we recommend here, so subscribe to our RSS Feed or email updates to follow our journey or find out about the new, helpful resources we add.
Good luck, and please share your thoughts with us by making comments to what you read. You can also email us at info@realfoodaction.org.
